What is PRP Therapy (PRFM) and PRP Hair Restoration?

The world of medical aesthetics sometimes appears to be overflowing with options these days. It can be challenging to determine which treatment would be the “right” one, when they all sound so good and promise to be “transformative”.

PRP therapy has truly put an end to the endless search for effective skincare. We use your body’s own growth factors to stimulate new collagen and the results are very noticeable.

It’s affordable, quick and really makes a difference. You will be amazed at what a change even one treatment can make in your skin or hair. Scars are lessoned, skin is tightened, tone and texture are measurably improved. Years disappear as the skin smoothes and brightens. PRP therapy is a brilliant marriage of science and aesthetics. Give it a try, and you will be wishing you had done it years ago.

How Does PRP Work?

PRP, or Platelet Rich Plasma, is a golden amber liquid serum derived from a small amount of a patient’s own blood. PRP is used to stimulate the patient’s inherent growth factors for improved skin, hair and overall cell growth and wellness. PRP can be applied topically after micro needling, or it can be injected into the scalp or facial tissue. The results are vastly improved hair growth and skin elasticity as well as an overall glow and youthfulness. This treatment has become extremely popular in recent years, and the reason is that it works beautifully. PRP therapy is highly effective, and produces noticeable results that are long-lasting. Skin becomes smooth, clear and visibly younger looking within weeks of a PRP therapy session. PRP scalp injections encourage thicker stronger hair. And, repigmentation of prematurely graying hair has also been seen as well.

What Does A PRP Treatment Consist Of?

The platelets in human blood are naturally drawn to any injury. Platelets then release growth factors which are responsible for healing tissue damage and stimulating the creation of collagen. Thus, injecting or applying a very concentrated form of the patient’s very own personal Platelet Rich Plasma greatly enhances the body’s ability to heal and rejuvenate itself. Each human body will always respond with the highest level of acceptance to it’s own blood platelets.. And, PRP therapy is the ONLY way to release the body’s own growth factors and achieve real and lasting results.

Where does the Platelet Rich Plasma Come From?

A small amount of blood is drawn from the arm of the patient. This blood is then placed in the Selphyl patented test tubes and then into a centrifuge.  The centrifuge will spin the blood so rapidly that the platelet rich plasma will separate completely from the red and white blood cells. This golden elixir is the body’s own healing fountain of youth. This whole process takes place on site right in room where the treatment will be performed.

What Makes PRP So Special?

PRP or PRFM (Platelet Rich Fibrin Matrix), is the gold standard in the PRP therapy field. We proudly offer the Selphyl PRP Therapy System. With Selphyl, there is absolutely no room for error on the part of the technician. Unlike most general PRP systems, Selphyl eliminates virtually all contamination from from red and white blood cells, which cause inflammation when present  in the PRP serum. Selphyl PRFM delivers the highest possible concentration of pure unadulterated platelets every time. The Selphyl  system also converts the fibrinogen in the blood sample to fibrin which creates a three dimensional matrix, allowing the growth factor to be released in a sustained manner over a long period of time. This Selphyl PRFM system is truly miles above the rest, and the results are intense and long lasting. If you are interested in what PRP can do for you, be sure to get the very best, Selphyl PRFM!

What Is Included in a PRP Session?

You’ve probably heard of the “Vampire Facial”. It sounds provocative, and it is! This is the non- surgical face lift you’ve always dreamed of. Years melt away after even one treatment. You’ve most likely seen quite a few celebrities who suddenly look years younger and tell the world how it’s all thanks to the “Vampire Facial”.  Well, they are not kidding. This is an intense minimally invasive treatment that combines the collagen induction therapy known as Micro Needling with powerful growth factor stimulating PRP therapy.

The Micro Needling portion of the treatment takes anywhere from 15-30 minutes to perform, depending on skin thickness and individual goals. The face is numbed first and then the Micro Needling pen is gently moved across the face creating thousands of open receptor sites into which the pure PRP(PRFM) will be absorbed after being applied topically. This absorption takes place within the skin matrix, below the surface.

For even more intense results, we can also inject the pure PRFM serum into the layer just below the skin’s surface. The effect is astounding. Skin becomes visibly tighter and more glowing and resilient. Cell turnover  rate is increased and a more youthful elasticity is restored. Your friends will all be dying to know what you did. And, unlike surgical procedures, it looks completely natural.

How Does Hair Rejuvenation and Restoration with PRP Work?

PRP has a strong and credible reputation for aiding in the rejuvenation and even restoration of thin and dull hair. For this procedure, we inject various areas of the scalp with the PRFM serum. The areas are numbed first, then the blood is drawn, put through the Selphyl centrifuge, and then the pure PRP is injected. A series of treatments will yield the best and most noticeable results.  Patients are thrilled to discover that the years of despairing over thin and lackluster hair are over. In as little as four to six weeks, many patients notice a startling difference.  And many have also enjoyed seeing more color return to their prematurely graying hair as well.

Who can Receive PRP Therapy?
  • PRP therapy yields intense results when treating those with mild to moderate skin laxity and/or acne scarring.
  • Those with thinning hair and/or premature graying.
  • Every skin type can benefit from PRP therapy.
  • PRP therapy is perfect for those who want great results, but do not wish to experience the downtime which is frequently associated with deeper laser resurfacing treatments.

Who Cannot Receive PRP Therapy?

Though most people can be treated very successfully with PRP Therapy, there are those who have pre-existing conditions which keep them from being candidates for this service.

The following issues are contraindicated for the PRP Procedure:
  • Skin diseases
  • Eczema
  • Allergies
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • History of cold sores
  • Tendency to keloid

Is the PRP Session Uncomfortable?

Whether we are treating topically or injecting the PRP, all areas to be treated will be numbed. There is minor discomfort when the blood is drawn, but that is fairly quick and performed by expert nurses who know how to keep discomfort to a minimum.

Is there Any Downtime from PRP?

Downtime is very minimal. There may be some slight swelling or bruising, but this usually clears up in only a few days. And, since PRP is made from your own blood, there is no risk of allergic reaction. When applying topically after Micro Needling, there will be several days of redness followed by a bronzing effect and some flaking. When the flaking stage has subsided, what is left is a gorgeous, radiant complexion that keeps improving for weeks and then maintains for a long term period of time.

Overall, most PRP patients can expect to stay out of the public eye for one to three days. For some, it may be up to a week, depending on skin sensitivity. After that, any residual issues are easily covered over with makeup.

How many treatment will I Need?

Although some will see fantastic results in only one treatment, most find that a series delivers the most astounding change in the skin and/or hair. When treating the skin topically with PRP after Micro Needling, we find that best results are presented when a series of six to ten treatments are undertaken, with six weeks between treatments. Once the initial series is completed, many opt to have the procedure once or twice a year to maintain the youthful glow and resilience that they have achieved.

When treating the face or scalp by injecting the PRP Serum, we find that a series of three to six treatments is truly a must for transformative results. Hair is thicker, softer and noticeably healthier after a series of injection treatments.
