The IPL Photofacial treatment is deeper corrective laser that specifically treats most red & brown spots on the face, neck, arms, back, legs or shoulders. IPL is also great for reducing hyper-pigmentation, freckles, cafe au lait macules, melasma, dischromia, liver spots, moles, birthmarks, port wine stains, rosacea, and broken capillaries for allover clear skin.
IPL means Intense Pulsed Light, so by using essentially a super bright flashing beam of energy, the desired treatment area is targeted to essentially break up dark pigmentation and cauterize red vessels. This process of applying IPL is relatively easy process with little to no downtime.
We use Alma Harmony AFT IPL (Dye VL). This is the absolute strongest and most powerful IPL on the market. With us your treatment is targeted for effectiveness and safety.
Many people opt to receive IPL as a corrective treatment to achieve ultimate clear skin, whiles others opt to receive treatment to completely clear the affected area(s), for example to treat unwanted freckles, dark spots or burst capillaries.
IPL is recommended as a 3 part treatment series for absolute best results. Depending on what’s being treated and the severity, some may need 6 sessions till ideal results are achieved.
Yes, this treatment is extremely safe for type 1-4 skin types with minimal downtime and minimal side effects.
The treatment has a low to medium level of discomfort described by most patients as a warm sensation. No numbing is required for this treatment, however it is provided for those who request it.
With numbing cream no sensation is felt during treatment. Post treatment you may feel like a sunburn has developed.
This can be relieved using water mists and ice packs and typical resolves within 12 hours post treatment.
Typically results develop about two weeks post treatment.
The ideal candidate for IPL are those with fair to medium skin tones. Those who are (untanned Hispanics, Middle Eastern or Asian may also receive IPL). Because IPL targets pigment, those with dark tanned skin or darker skin tones are advised not to treat with IPL. as the area treated may actually get worse instead of better. In these cases we suggest to treat with the safe and effective alternative for all skin colors, Clear and Brilliant, found HERE.
The pigmented areas may get worse before they get better with mild inflammation and pinkness for 1-3 days is common.
Depending on your skin type and healing process, you can get a treatment every 2-6 weeks. Or as recommended by your healthcare professional.
After treatment the area may become darker, similar to a scab. Once this scab flakes off, new fresh skin is revealed. For large areas like the arms, the area may be pink to mildly red for up to 3 days.
Anyone with a skin type 5 or above should never receive IPL treatment. Patients that have had adverse reactions in the past to IPL should also not receive treatment.
We will ask that you continue to keep the treated area moisturized, ideally with Aquaphor (which we will provide for you). Do not pick peel or scratch the treatment area. Let the area heal on its own. Bandaging is not required post treatment.
Cover the treated area with a thick bandage covering if you are planning on being in the sun immediately after your treatment. We ask that you refrain from hot tubs, swimming pools, dips in the ocean or water sports until the skin’s surface has completed healed and sealed up again-meaning there should be no openings in the area targeted. If you are unsure of what this exactly means, feel free to come in and show us your treated area, or even email or text us a photo to get medical guidance on how to properly take care of your skin.
Call to schedule your appointment. We book your appointment based on the approximate size of your tattoo removal. All new clients are given a complimentary consultation as well as a (no charge) medical evaluation with a doctor or nurse practitioner (you will need to allow extra time at your first visit for this).
We are open 7 days a week. Once you schedule your appointment we will ask that you come in to pick up (complimentary) numbing cream so that you arrive to your treatment ready to be treated.
Numbing cream should be applied 30 minutes prior to treatment. The area should be covered to allow the cream to fully absorb into the skin.
