What is Kybella?

Kybella is an FDA approved injectable treatment that breaks down and dissolves fat so that it can be eliminated by your body. Results of a Kybella treatment take a few weeks to develop, but are be permanent once they've been achieved. Kybella is a great option for men and women who want to remove chin fullness or a double chin.

HOW DOES KYBELLA WORK?

Kybella Produces amazing results! The active ingredient in Kybella is synthetic deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that breaks down and absorbs fat by breaking down cell membranes of fat cells.  When injecting Kybella, the response is that fat cells are targeted to destruction. The dissolved fat then gets cleared by the lymphatic and circulatory systems, as any waste product in our bodies does. These target fat cells remove themselves gradually over the span of several weeks. As for the Kybella/deoxycholic acid, it follows the same path; It gets metabolized and broken down, and then excreted as waste.

  • Who Can Be Treated With Kybella?

Kybella is suitable for men and women ages 19 to 65+ who are experiencing fullness in the chin/submentum area, often referred to as a “double chin”. Kybella is also a great alternative for anyone who cannot receive CoolSculpting, or liposuction to areas where fat pockets reside, such as the bra bulges, knees, or abdomen.

  • How Is Kybella Unique?

Surprisingly, deoxycholic acid has been used for many years for the reduction of fat.  In 2015, a company called Kythera achieved an FDA approval for safe treatment of submental fat using Kybella.  Since the FDA approval, Allergan, purchased the company and dropped the Kythera name. The FDA approval provides a safety rating that previous and current non-brand name deoxycholic acid products cannot provide. Khloe Kardashian tried the Kybella treatment to help sculpt her jawline. Kybella has gained widespread popularity due to the ease of use-just a few easy shots and your fat is forever treated!

  • What Areas Can Be Treated With Kybella?

Kybella is typically used for the chin/submentum area or “double chin”, however it may also be successfully used for fat pockets around the bra, knees and abdomen areas.

  • Are Results From Kybella Permanent?

Yes, the results from Kybella are long term, as fat is targeted, destroyed and removed. For those who are experiencing fat accumulation without regarding to being overweight, a dramatic improvement to your appearance can be experienced in just a few treatments.

  • Is Kybella Safe?

Yes, Kybella is FDA approved and safe for use as indicated when injected by a skilled, licensed nurse, nurse practitioner or doctor provider.

  • What Does The Kybella Treatment Feel Like?

Kybella treatment is virtually painless. Kybella requires a series of small injections with a very small, thin needle to the desired treatment area. These will feel like tiny pinpricks.

  • Does Kybella Hurt?

During a Kybella treatment, many claim no sensation or pain at all since numbing agents are used during injection. Post Kybella treatment, you may feel a slight tingle or short-lived burning sensation in the treated area. This sensation is totally manageable and does not remove you from your normal activities post treatment.

  • Is Kybella Suitable For Men Too?

Absolutely. Men love Kybella for its ease of use; treatments take just a few minutes and you can go back to your day’s activities.

  • How Long Does The Treatment Take?

For the chin/submentum fullness, also called the “double chin”, treatment takes no longer than 30 minutes.  Areas of the body such as the bra bulges or knees typically take 30-45 minutes.

  • How Many Kybella Treatments Will I Need?

Kybella is administered by bottle called a "vial".  Each vial typically treats an area the approximate size of two business cards.  Typically a full chin will require one to four vials per treatment, depending on the level of fullness.  Those with larger pockets of fat may require successive treatments spaced no less than one month apart.   Those who are looking for the maximum correction may desire up to 6 treatments, spaced no less than one month apart. Those looking for an ideal amount of correction are generally recommended to receive multiple vials and or treatments. Our highly trained medical team at Cienega Med Spa will help you determine how many sessions, and/or treatment vials you will likely require.

  • How Soon Will I See Results Of Kybella?

Results from Kybella typically develop within a few weeks post treatment.

  • What Kind Of Results Should I Expect From Kybella?

In a clinical study for Kybella, those treated with up to 6 treatments noticed up to 80% reduction in the fullness of the chin.

  • Will My Results From Kybella Look Natural?

Yes. Because Kybella gradually works to reduce fat cells, results simulate a weight loss type of outcome (when correct treatment protocols are followed).

  • Who Should Not Get Kybella?

Those with an infection in the desired treatment area should not receive Kybella. Pregnant or nursing mothers should also not receive Kybella as it has not been determined whether Kybella is passed through the system.   Kybella should be used with caution for those with bleeding abnormalities, as bleeding or bruising in the treatment area may occur. For these clients, CoolSculpting may be a better alternative.

  • Is There Any Downtime From Kybella?

While there is no downtime from a Kybella treatment, and you may return to normal activities post treatment, there may be "social downtime" if swelling or bruising present.

  • What Are The Common Side Effects Of Kybella?

The common side effects from a Kybella treatment are bruising, swelling, redness, pain, and numbness and areas of hardness in the treated area may result. Please keep in mind that these are not all of the possible side effects from Kybella.

  • What Should I Do To Get Ready For My Kybella Treatment?

There is no pre-care instructions prior to receiving a Kybella treatment. We recommend receiving Kybella treatment at least 3-6 months prior to any special event you may have to allow time for results to fully develop.

  • What Is The Follow Up Care After My Kybella Treatment?

There is nothing extra you are required to do post Kybella treatment.

  • When Should I Get My Next Kybella Treatment?

If you are a candidate for multiple treatments, you should wait 4 weeks before receiving another treatment in the same area.

  • Can I Get A Kybella Treatment Before A Special Event Or Travel?

No. Because results take a few months to develop, and because some post treatment swelling, bruising and pain can develop, Kybella should be scheduled several months prior to your expectation of results.

  • How Much Does A Kybella Treatment Cost?

Kybella treatment requires one to several vials depending on the level of fullness in the desired treatment area(s).  Each vial is priced accordingly, and package discounts are available for those looking to purchase several vials.

  • Are There Any Specials Or Discounts I Can Apply To My Kybella Treatment?

Yes. It's fun; it's free, it's Brilliant Distinctions; A free rewards program by the manufacturer of Kybella where you can earn points on each treatment of Kybella, or any other Allergan product like Botox or CoolSculpting. Points can then be redeemed for savings on treatments. Brilliant Distinctions also allows you to earn points when you shop online at your favorite retailers who participate in the Brilliant Distinctions program.   Brilliant Distinctions has a free phone application where you can track, manage and redeem your points.    Please call or chat with a Cienega Med Spa representative to learn more about this great program.

  • Which Should I Choose? Coolsculpting Or Kybella?

Great question we get all the time.  If you are looking for no downtime, CoolSculpting may be a better option for you, as Kybella may produce post treatment swelling and mild pain.   If you are looking to treat your jawline fat with the fastest treatment option available, Kybella may be the ideal option for you, as treatments take less than 30 minutes to complete, whereas CoolSculpting may require over an hour for treatment.
