Small bright-red dots that keep multiplying as the years go by.
Cherry angiomas are clusters of tiny blood vessels close to the surface of the skin. They are benign, they are not a sign of anything wrong, and they are extremely common: most people see their first ones in their thirties, usually on the chest, arms, or back, and slowly collect more with age.
Because they are made of blood vessels, picking or scratching at a cherry angioma does not remove it and can make it bleed impressively for its size. Home removal devices sold online are a genuinely bad idea here, since the spot needs to be sealed, not scraped.
In clinic, they are treated with cautery or freezing, and several can be handled in the same appointment. The provider confirms each spot is an angioma first, then treats it in seconds. Because blood vessels are involved, a treated spot can look darker or bruised briefly afterward before it settles.
Expect small dark dots where the angiomas were for several days to a couple of weeks, which then flake away as the skin renews. Most fade without a trace. New angiomas can appear elsewhere over the years, since the tendency is genetic, and many patients come back for a periodic clean-up visit.
