When you decide to remove your tattoo, laser tattoo removal works to break up pigment for permanent removal of the ink.
During your tattoo session, your artist slowly inputs pigment one bit at a time. With laser treatments the process is essentially reversed as laser energy works to slowly break up and release the pigment from the skin.
With each treatment your tattoo will slowly fade away. After a course of treatments, your tattoo will be virtually unnoticeable, without harm to your skin.
Our Alma Harmony Q-Switch laser produces short pulses of powerful sound waves that pass, without harm, through the upper layers of the skin to target and break up the unwanted tattoo pigment.
This energy from the Q-Switch laser shatters the tattoo pigment into small nano (thousands of tiny molecules) sized particles that are then removed gradually by the body’s regular metabolism and lymphatic drainage system.
Over the course of your treatment series, your tattoo will gradually fade away. The laser tattoo removal process is non-surgical and non-invasive treatment and can be performed with virtually no downtime.

Your next treatment should be no sooner than 8 to 12 weeks.
When you schedule an appointment with us, the laser immediately works its magic to break up the pigment. Thereafter your body is responsible for eliminating the ink. It does this as a natural process of metabolization and blood flow, but it needs 8 to 12 weeks to fully resolve targeted ink molecules.
Each laser sessions breaks up only a certain amount of the tattoo, so you will need to return for successive treatments until the tattoo fully resolves.
Anyone with an unwanted tattoo.
Any skin tone can be treated.
Any area of the body can be treated.
With all tattoo removal treatments, we suggest a minimum of 6 sessions at least, spaced 8 to 12 weeks apart. While many may see sensational results after just a few treatments, there are cases/types of tattoos where one may require more treatments to fully resolve.
Our technology, the Alma Harmony Q-Switch tattoo removal laser targets pigment, so the particular color and type of ink to be removed largely determines how relatively easy or challenging the tattoo removal process may be for your unique tattoo.
How many treatments you will need vary on a couple factors of the tattoo you want treated:
• The color of the ink.
• Your skin tone.
• Any scarring that may be present.
• The amount of ink that was used.
The easiest tattoo colors removed are black, dark blue, gray and green. Colors such as light blue, aqua, pink, brown, orange and yellow may never completely fade away.
Each individual pigment is comprised of a different kind of metal that will react differently under laser tattoo removal, so better quality tattoos will present less challenges to remove.
The Alma Harmony Q-Switch laser Tattoo Removal system targets pigment, and while it can bypass your natural skin tone, those with deeper skin tones may require more treatments.
• Those with medium to fair skin tones are best candidates.
• Tattoos with dark, shallow laid ink are easiest to treat.
• Areas closest to your heart resolve and heal the fastest.
• Each individual pigment is comprised of a different kind of metal and will react differently to the laser.
• Professional tattoo inks that do not have titanium dioxide or iron oxide are easier to treat.
• Tattoos performed by amateur sources are the hardest to resolve.
• Typically, the older the tattoo, the more sessions it could take to resolve.
• Those with immune system deficiencies heal the slowest, so more treatments will almost absolutely be needed.
• Those who smoke will also need more treatments to rid of the tattoo.
• White ink cannot be treated.
• Yellow ink may never fully resolve.
• Women who are pregnant or breast-feeding will not be treated for tattoo removal.
• The easiest colors to remove thoroughly are black, dark blue, gray and green. Colors such as light blue, purple, aqua, pink, brown, orange and yellow may never fully fade away.
• Pregnant or nursing women.
• Those with an active infection at or near the desired treatment area.
• Those with heart problems, cancer, history of seizures and immune system disorders.
• Those with implanted medical devices.
• Those with a history of Keloid Scarring as tattoo removal may cause keloid scarring.
Other factors will need to be considered once you have come in for a free consultation with one of our medical professionals.
While we ensure the utmost safety, there are always risks with any cosmetic or corrective procedure received. For laser tattoo removal the severe risks include infection at the removal site, incomplete pigment removal, darkening of the skin in the treated area, whitening of the skin in the treated area and even scarring.
Those with a history of keloid scars may develop a keloid post treatment. While we do offer treatment to resolve any keloids that may arise, these cannot be treated until tattoo removal sessions are fully satisfied.
You should also know there are cases where the tattoo removal requires multiple sessions, often as much as 20 or 30 treatments. And in some cases, the tattoo remnants may still be visible after repeated treatments. In some cases, a scar may be left behind tattoo removal treatments-this can be treated with alternate laser treatments when tattoo removal sessions are satisfied.
Those with deeper skin tones make the process more challenging. Unfortunately sometimes hypo pigmentation (loss of skin pigment) can occur. Although this doesn’t happen with most clients, it is possible.
In cases where the skin tone is deeper, we are always very careful to proceed safely with each treatments in order to keep the risk of hypo-pigmentation to a minimum.
We use a medical grade numbing cream for all tattoo removal treatments, and can sometimes offer injection of numbing agent for certain small tattoos, which makes the treatment generally painless. When the treatment is initiated, you may feel a sensation similar to tapping or a rubber band snapping. The process is fast and simple and once treatment is done, there is no more pain.
Our nurses have been trained to be diligent in the process of tattoo removal to ensure the best coverage for the ultimate best results.
When you walk out of our clinic after a tattoo removal treatment, the area is bandaged and completely covered. You are advised NOT to swim, sauna, sunbathe or go in the ocean post treatment.
This is because when you receive a treatment, the area of the tattoo that has been targeted will immediately appear slightly “puffed” up; this happens when the pigment is targeted and the resulting heat is in the process of being eliminated from the body.
This slight raised area should resolve within a few minutes to a few hours post treatment. In some cases this could last up to a few days. In some cases, you may see redness, swelling, blistering, peeling or flaking. You may also see a scab form. Surrounding skin is unaffected.
It usually takes about 3 to 6 weeks between treatments for the body to absorb the shattered pigment fragments. Then, once the area has completely healed weeks, you are ready to continue your treatments. We generally suggest treatment no sooner than 12 weeks.
We will ask that you continue to keep the treated area moisturized, ideally with Aquaphor (which we will provide for you). Do not pick peel or scratch the treatment area. Let the area heal on its own. Bandaging is not required after the initial day post treatment.
Cover the treated area with a thick bandage covering if you are planning on being in the sun. We ask that you refrain from hot tubs, swimming pools, dips in the ocean or water sports until the skin’s surface has completed healed and sealed up again-meaning there should be no openings in the area targeted.
If you are unsure of what this exactly means, feel free to come in and show us your treated area, or even email or text us a photo to get medical guidance on how to properly take care of your skin.
If you are considering just slightly removing or reducing your tattoo for whatever reason, we can help with that too! In these cases we would suggest a base of 3 to 6 treatments to yield your desired “stop point”.
Any scarring that is present in the area to be treated for tattoo removal by the Alma Harmony Q-Switch laser will remain after the tattoo has been removed. In the majority of cases, this scarring may have been caused by the application of the ink when the tattoo was originally applied.
If you have a tattoos over pre-existing scars, the scar might lessen the results of the tattoo removal process, as scars tend to exhibit a different type of pigment than surrounding healthy tissue. But, it is important to note that tattoo removal is not the same as scar removal, and will have no effect at all toward that end.
We can remove tattoos from any part of the body, but the process is a little faster when the tattoos are located closer to your body’s center (heart and torso). The fragmented pigment is removed by the bloodstream, and therefore this process happens faster where you have the best circulation.
So, those areas nearest your heart, such as the chest, abs, and back will see faster results with fewer treatments. The various extremities such as hands, arms, feet and legs, tend to require more treatments because those areas have less circulation.
In this case, It is very helpful to come in and have a FREE consultation regarding your laser tattoo removal. Very dark ink, or ink that has been layered and/or retouched can be very difficult to remove completely.
The best case scenario for for removal of tattoos with the Alma harmony Q-Switched laser are: tattoos where there is already significant fading of the ink, or tattoos that are smaller and have a minimum number of colors.
How much physical exercise you get, if you are a smoker, your medical history and rate of metabolism are all factors that can determine how quickly tattoos may be removed.
