The first Phase 3 results arrived in December 2025, the pivotal TRIUMPH-1 obesity trial reported strong results in May 2026, and more readouts are expected through late 2026. Eli Lilly has not announced an FDA submission date. Industry analysts generally expect a filing in late 2026 or 2027, which would put potential approval in late 2027 or 2028. As soon as it is approved and legally available, Cienega plans to offer it.
Can I get retatrutide anywhere right now?
No. Retatrutide is an investigational drug: it is not FDA approved, and federal law does not allow pharmacies to compound it. The only legitimate way to receive retatrutide today is by enrolling in a clinical trial. Products sold online or in clinics as retatrutide are unapproved, often labeled for research use only, and may be counterfeit.
Some clinics sell retatrutide now. Why doesn't Cienega?
Because it is not legal, and there is no way to verify what those vials actually contain. The FDA has issued warning letters to companies selling retatrutide labeled for research use, and state licensing boards have suspended licenses at clinics dispensing unapproved weight-loss drugs. We will offer retatrutide when it is FDA approved and sourced through licensed distributors, the same standard we hold for every medication we carry.
What results has retatrutide shown in trials?
In the Phase 3 TRIUMPH-1 trial, participants on the highest dose lost an average of 28.3% of their body weight over 80 weeks, and participants with a BMI of 35 or higher who continued to two years lost an average of 30.3%. That is the strongest average weight loss reported in a Phase 3 trial of a weight loss medication so far. Side effects were mostly digestive, similar to other GLP-1 medications.
How can I join a retatrutide clinical trial?
Some retatrutide studies are still enrolling. You can search for actively recruiting trials on ClinicalTrials.gov. Eligibility varies by study, and enrollment is handled by the trial sites, not by Cienega.
What can I do while I wait for retatrutide?
The same medication family is available now. Cienega offers medically supervised semaglutide and tirzepatide programs today. Tirzepatide is the closest available option: it targets two of the three hormone pathways retatrutide uses. Starting now also means you will already have an established care relationship if you decide to switch when retatrutide arrives.
