If treatment is appropriate and you choose to proceed, your provider reviews the medications with you. The review fee is charged once for that encounter, including prescriptions ordered separately that day.

Pay for the bottles prescribed for you, with no subscription or automatic refill. Buying several together does not add another fee to the same medication review. You see the total before agreeing.
Pickup with teaching, or delivery
At clinic pickup, we show you how to use your medication and answer your questions. This teaching is included in the review fee. Prefer delivery? We ship to your home anywhere in California at no extra charge. If you cannot get to a clinic and would like to be shown how to inject, we can do that over video.

Most peptides are not FDA-approved for the uses discussed publicly, and are prescribed at the discretion of a licensed provider after an individual evaluation. A peptide is not appropriate for everyone, and individual results vary.
Peptide therapy at Cienega Medical is available by prescription only. If it is, they write the prescription and we prepare it for your visit. If it is not, they will tell you that too.
What Is SS-31?
SS-31, also called elamipretide, is a synthetic peptide made of four amino acids. It is described as mitochondria-targeted, meaning it concentrates in the mitochondria, the structures inside cells that produce most of the body’s usable energy. It is studied for its interaction with cardiolipin, a lipid in the inner mitochondrial membrane involved in how efficiently those structures work.
Most published research on elamipretide comes from clinical trials in rare mitochondrial conditions and in heart and eye disease, not from studies of healthy adults seeking more energy. It is not FDA-approved for the uses discussed here, and it is prescribed at a provider’s discretion after an individual evaluation.

What is SS-31, and what is it studied for?
SS-31, also known as elamipretide, is a synthetic four-amino-acid peptide studied for its interaction with the mitochondrial membrane. The research shows less than the internet suggests. The published work is concentrated in rare mitochondrial disease, heart failure and eye disease, results have been mixed, and there is very little research in healthy adults, which is the group most people asking about it belong to. Is SS-31 FDA-approved?
The FDA granted accelerated approval to Forzinity (elamipretide) in September 2025 to improve muscle strength in people with Barth syndrome who weigh at least 30 kg. That specific approval does not establish an energy benefit for healthy adults or mean that a compounded SS-31 bottle is FDA-approved. Your provider will discuss the evidence and alternatives. What are the risks of SS-31, and who should avoid it?
SS-31 is not right for everyone. Your nurse practitioner reviews your health history, current medications and existing conditions before prescribing, and if it is not an appropriate choice for you, they will tell you that. Bring your current medication list to the free consultation.

What does it cost, and what is included?
Bottle pricing is shown above. Every order includes one medical review fee, which covers the review and managing your prescriptions, and is charged once even when prescriptions go out as separate orders the same day. The consultation itself is free.

How do I start?
Book a free consultation with a nurse practitioner, online or at any of our three locations. They go through your health history, your current medications and what you are trying to achieve, then tell you whether this is a sensible fit. Not everyone is, and if you are, they write the prescription and you pay for your bottles plus the one review fee.

Where does my prescription come from?
Your prescription is filled by a licensed U.S. 503A compounding pharmacy.

How long does one bottle last, and how do refills work?
That depends on what your provider prescribes, so it is not something we can put a number on here. Your nurse practitioner tells you at your review roughly how long a bottle should last for you and when it would make sense to order again. There is no subscription and no automatic refill, so you order again only when you decide to.

Can I collect it or have it shipped?
Both. Collect at West Hollywood, Santa Monica or Calabasas, where we pack it for you and show you how to inject it, all covered by the review fee. Or we ship it to your home anywhere in California, at no extra charge. If you cannot get to a clinic and would like to be shown how to inject, we can set up a video visit and walk you through it.
